New Year, New Goals

Happy New Year!

The start of another year, where you blow out the cobwebs of the last twelve months, and look ahead, both personally and professionally.

It is also the time where we make our resolutions for the New Year. Personally, I find the New Year rather empowering, as it gives me an opportunity to reflect on the previous year, and think about what I would like to achieve in the next twelve months. To go about this, I always devise myself a list of personal goals.

This is something you can also do. All you require is a pen, a piece of paper and a few minutes to note down the goals you want to achieve. It can be a promotion, achieving a specific qualification, or even something personal like taking up a new hobby, as shown in the two examples below.

  • Learn how to speak French fluently before July.
  • Take part in the Liverpool Santa Dash in December.

You can write out as many goals as you wish, but I always try to keep to a maximum of 10. However, you can set as many goals as you wish, but remember your time is finite. In addition, I would also take into consideration the following.

  • Be precise, realistic, positive and enthusiastic (PRPE).
  • Make sure they are achievable.
  • Any goals you set yourself require commitment on your part.
  • Prioritise the important goals, which are important to you.

By setting personal goals, you can measure your performance against them, and take pride in your achievements. Setting goals will also help you improve your life and career.

Good Luck with your goals for this year!
