Creative Kitchen – Women in Tech

Earlier this month, I attended Creative Kitchen’s Woman in Tech discussion. Featuring three different speakers, this looked at inspiring more women into technology. I was interested in attending this event, as I am keen to see more women get involved with the industry.

The speakers included Amanda Follit from Amaze, Debbie Edwards from FDisruptors and Clare Rogerson from Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA). Each speaker had an excellent story to tell, overcoming many challenges and obstacles, to not only become successful in their careers, but also to give back and show others, that anything is possible. This takes several qualities, which I recognised from each speaker’s personal journey. These included mental and physical resilience, authenticity, empathy, teamwork, confidence, putting people first and having passion for what you do.

With technology integral to every aspect of modern society, more needs to be done to inspire and encourage women into technology. This needs not only education and self-learning with enthusiasm, but also crucially inspiring and giving them the confidence, to pursue their technological passions. By showing them the magic of technology, this can arouse their interest and curiosity, to inspire them to become tomorrow’s engineers, developers and programmers. All the above can also be applied to every other industry, including science, engineering and manufacturing.

I would like to thank Creative Kitchen, all the speakers, and everyone involved with organising the event. I am glad I attended, as I was impressed with all the speakers, and their inspirational stories. If I have come away from the event with anything, it is that everyone deserves the same opportunity to pursue their passions.

In conclusion, I support anyone striving to change attitudes for the better. This is not just in technology, but in any aspect of life. Therefore I will be playing my part in the future, by giving a helping hand.
