Who are The Hive Youth Zone, and what do they do?
For many young people in the Wirral, there are minimal facilities that are affordable. The lack of social places, and opportunities for them to make friends, take part in activities and grow and develop as individuals, can be damaging and disheartening.
However there is a shining light called The Hive Youth Zone, which is a Birkenhead based charity that strives to address this. The charity’s purpose is to provide a safe, affordable, inclusive, and trusted environment to support over 38,900 young people in the Wirral, which allows them to enjoy themselves, and to develop their confidence and raise their aspirations. In simple terms, The Hive is a beacon of hope to thousands of young people, allowing them to make new friends, engage in fun activities and develop their skills.
Having opened in 2017 as a purpose-built facility, The Hive supports young people from the ages of 8 to 19, as well as those with disabilities up to the age of 25. By providing a safe environment, The Hive provides a wide range of activities and workshops from dance, sports, art, fashion, drama, music and more.
As well as activities, The Hive also operates a holiday club for school holidays. In addition, they also run an 8-week programme for young people to develop their employability skills, to help them improve their prospects of getting into work and apprenticeships.
The Hive does a fantastic job in supporting young people in the Wirral. By providing a space that gives them somewhere to go, something to do, and more importantly someone for them to talk to do, this gives them hope and opportunity for their future. The work of the charity is awe inspiring and crucial in keeping them safe, off the streets, and supporting them to fulfil their potential. You can have a look at this video here.
